This mayfly pattern is a subimago-stage imitation, designed to target fish feeding at the very start of a hatch.
The tag, which imitates the nymphal shuck, allows the abdomen to remain submerged while the wings are fully deployed. These are separated by fluorescent pink fibres, making the fly highly visible to the angler even in very poor light conditions.
A subtle red tinsel flash provides an attractor trigger point on an otherwise highly imitative fly, helping to provoke reluctant fish in clear water and under bright, sunny skies.
