Rob Redman grew up on the northwest coast of Wales, fishing small streams and tributaries from the age of eight. By thirteen he had found sea trout, and he has never looked back. The intervening years have been spent in close company with these enigmatic fish — learning their water, their seasons, and the particular kind of patience their pursuit demands.
It is the night fishing that defines him. Rob's obsession with hunting sea trout in darkness is something he struggles to put into words — which perhaps says everything. That same dedication carried naturally into the tying room, where he has developed his own sea trout patterns that have earned a wider following well beyond Wales. His flies are practical things, born of experience rather than experiment for its own sake.
Beyond sea trout and salmon, Rob fishes wild lakes and rivers throughout Wales for brown trout, grayling, and bass — and ties accordingly. He has been a main contributor to Fly Fishing Journal and has been featured in both Trout & Salmon and Fly Tying magazines, bringing his knowledge of Welsh sea trout fishing to a broad and appreciative readership.
