Robert MacDonald-Lewis
Fly Tying
Speciality: All-rounder • Scotland
Robert MacDonald-Lewis grew up in the northwest Highlands of Scotland and began fishing the coastal waters and hill lochs of Lochaber at just seven years old. After finishing university in 2002, he took up fly fishing — and not long after received his first fly-tying kit. From that moment, he was hooked.
Early on, Robert focused on the many excellent stocked waters of Aberdeenshire, but his passion soon led him back to the wild lochs and rugged landscapes of his youth. While wild brown trout remain his main focus, he also regularly fishes for sea trout and salmon, targets grayling through the winter, and occasionally casts for pike. His tying reflects this variety — a wide and versatile range of flies for each of these species.
Robert’s dedication to the craft continues to grow, blending Scottish tradition with personal creativity in every pattern he ties.
