Salmon Pro
Speciality: Spate River & Hill Loch Fanatic • Scottish Highlands
Growing up beside a North Highland spate river, Lana Richardson learned to fly fish as naturally as she learned to ride a bike.
By the age of four she was catching wild trout in small streams and hill lochs, and by five she had turned her focus to Atlantic salmon.
At just six years old, she landed her first salmon on a Stoat’s Tail — a moment that sparked a lifelong passion for the sport.
Today, Lana primarily fishes across the Scottish Highlands for salmon, brown trout, and sea trout, though she’s never shy to chase any species that can be caught on the fly.
Her travels have already taken her to Denmark, Mexico, and Canada, with Argentina, Mongolia, and Greenland high on her ever-growing bucket list.
Living and working in the Highlands, Lana combines her love of fishing with her professional career in habitat conservation and land management.
Fisheries management forms a key part of her work — a perfect complement to her deep connection with wild waters.
Outside of work, she enjoys guiding and introducing beginners to fly fishing.
If she’s not at her desk, you’ll almost certainly find her casting a line somewhere.
Lana also contributes to fly-fishing magazines and maintains her own blog.
She is part of Spate Fly Fishing — a creative collective of four anglers who document their adventures through evocative short films and photography that celebrate the beauty of wild places and the art of the fly.
