John Murphy, from Staffordshire in the heart of England, began fly fishing at the age of 14. It wasn’t long before he was tying his own flies — at first focusing on stillwater patterns such as lures and buzzers that defined his early work.

As the years went by, John discovered the beauty and challenge of river fishing. Fascinated by the ever-changing hatches throughout the trout season, he began to refine his tying towards dry flies and later nymphs — the styles that now form the foundation of his fishing and fly design. Add in his love of grayling, sea trout, and salmon fishing, and it’s clear John is an accomplished all-round angler and fly tyer.

John regularly appears at shows and tying demonstrations across the UK, most recently featuring on the International Tyers Row at the British Fly Fair International.
