Pro Tyer
South Wales • Dry Fly Specialist • Instructor & Author
Gareth Lewis hails from the base of the stunning Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park in South Wales. He is a professionally qualified game angling instructor and member of the Game Angling Instructors’ Association, a former fly-fishing guide, and a regular author and contributor to respected fly-fishing publications.
A passionate dry fly angler, Gareth’s fishing is rooted in the intimate tributaries and larger freestone rivers of South Wales, with the River Usk as his home water. He’s happiest on running water, wherever wild trout are found — and his fly tying reflects this connection to nature, precision, and purpose.
Introduced to fly fishing by his father at the age of ten, Gareth soon discovered his love of fly tying and never looked back. Over three decades later, he continues to teach, demonstrate, and inspire through his craft. He has guided clients for over ten years and regularly presents at international shows including the British Fly Fair International, Irish Fly Fair, and Fly Fest, among many others.
Beyond his teaching and tying, Gareth serves as Secretary of the Gwent Angling Society, a leading environmentally focused club in South-East Wales. He is a strong advocate for river conservation, habitat protection, and sustainable catch-and-release practices — embodying the spirit of stewardship that defines modern fly fishing.
