Gareth Lewis
Pro Tyer
Hailing from the base of the beautiful and picturesque Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park in South Wales, Gareth Lewis is a professionally qualified game angling instructor and member of the Game Angling Instructors’ Association, ex-fly fishing guide, as well as an author and contributor to various fly fishing publications.
Gareth is a passionate dry fly angler for river brown trout, and his fishing is firmly rooted in the world of small stream tributaries and the larger free-stone waters of South Wales, UK, and he calls the River Usk his home river. However, he will fish wherever trout are found in running water; likewise, Gareth’s fly dressing matches suit.
Introduced to fly fishing by his father when he was ten years old, Gareth caught the fly-tying bug a few months later. Gareth passionately guided clients for ten years in the thirty-plus years that have followed and continues to teach fly fishing and demonstrate fly dressing at a range of international shows (British Fly Fair International, Irish Fly Fair, Fly Fest, Welsh Fly Fair, North Wales Country Fair, etc.), as well as supporting numerous Fly Dresser’s Guild and fishing club events. Gareth is also a passionate writer and author and writes/contributes to several international publications (including Fly Culture Magazine, Fly Fishing & Fly Tying, Trout & Salmon, etc.).
Gareth is also the Secretary of the Gwent Angling Society, an environmentally-focused angling club based in South-East Wales. He is a huge advocate of habitat protection, river conservation, and catch-and-release practices.
