Pro Fly Tyer
Scotland • Traditional Loch-Style Specialist
Based in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Allan Hutton is a passionate fly-fisher and tyer deeply rooted in Scotland’s rich trout angling traditions. His journey began with the Airdrie & District Angling Club, where he first learned to fish Hillend Reservoir from both bank and boat — and discovered the craft of fly tying during the club’s winter sessions. Encouraged by fellow anglers, Allan was taught to tie traditional Loch-style wet flies, a style that continues to influence and inspire his tying today.
While he still enjoys fishing his local waters, Allan’s heart belongs to the lochs and lochans of the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Over time, his enthusiasm has evolved into a deep respect for the art and history of traditional fly patterns. He specialises in Loch-style wets, Clyde style flies, and North Country spiders — blending timeless Scottish heritage with subtle modern flair.
Allan has demonstrated his craft at the Scottish Game Fair and the BFFI as part of The Sharp & Gentles Fly Tying Club, and will proudly appear on the Famous Tyers Row at BFFI 2026. Whether honouring tradition or reinventing classics, his dedication to the art of fly tying is constant, creative, and lifelong.
